104. Sea Bats
Welcome to another exciting episode of That Don't Sound Right. If not exciting, at least it is short. The That Don't Sound Right community was active this week giving us feedback on Cow Tipping and Rites of Passage. Peter and Cecil open up the virtual mailbag to give voice to your thoughts. You sent us how to fight Sea Bats, stretch paper, pray in class, follow up with company presidents and much more! We hope you enjoy episode 104 which means we have been doing this for two years! #anniversary #TDSR #cows

103. Left Handed Smoke Shifter
We dig into some of the great rites of passage, including Smoke Shifting, Snipe Hunting and the dubious sport of Cow Tipping. Of course there is a fine line between rite of passage and hazing. So, grab a left handed smoke shifter, a cold drink and join us for a lesson on why you do not grease the main bearing. We also want to say hello to all our new listeners! Thanks for listening! #TDSR #snipe #cowtipping #smokeshifter

102. The ABC's of DEF

Peter and Cecil discuss the chemical make up of DEF which is always a treat. We definitely talk about how and why DEF is used. You will leave being able to entertain your friends at your next dinner party with your knowledge of DEF. #TDSR #DEF #Diesel #Trucks

101. Don't Rock the Boat
As a follow-up to Episode 36, "The Great Loop, Peter and Cecil revisit the world of boating. What could possibly not sound right about boating? Well, owners who do not know how to tow, back, dock, tie off, maintain or pull a boat out of the water just for starters. As the saying goes the two best days of a boat owners life are the day they buy their boat and the day they sell it. The same could be said for project cars, but that is another podcast. As always, thank you for listening! #boats #tdsr

100. Ducks in a Row
So what is up with rubber ducks and Jeeps? Join Peter and Cecil as they pontificate on why rubber ducks and Jeep culture has collided. This is our 100 hundredth episode, and all of you who have listened deserve a memento like a rubber duck on a Jeep. We apologize for the background noise in this episode, we will try and get that corrected. We hope you enjoy the episode! #TheJeepMafia #duckduckjeep #jeepducks #tdsr
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- I drive a 2008 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. I have received two ducks, and never given one, apparently this started only a couple of years ago. I do notice that the newer Jeeps (the ones with more color) seem to usually be the ones with several ducks lined up along their windshields. Maybe mine is too old and ugly (which is fine for me!)
- The universally known wave of Jeep owners is both arms straight up and then back and forth over the head. Sort of a frantic half jumping jack. Usually while standing beside the spotless vehicle. On the side of a paved road.

99. Haint Blue
Peter and Cecil welcome listener number one back into the studio for a wide ranging conversation tonight. Peter kicks us off with haint blue and its modern uses. But, some how we end up discussing the various clubs that are available in the Triad. Join us for a great time talking about things that don't sound right. #haint #blue #wasp #tdsr.

98. Harness the Hen
Peter and Cecil welcome Listener #1, Scott, back to Camel City Studios to share his expertise on chickens. Tonight's episode comes from an industrious young lady that created a marketing campaign for the Hen Harness. But, before we can get into this revolutionary product, Scott gives us the details of his hobby of beekeeping. Welcome to the conversation, and tonight's is wide ranging, from capturing the queen to training your chicken to ride a bike! #henharness #walkyourchicken #TDSR

97. Pick a Lane
Peter describes the day, Dagen H, that Sweden moved from driving on the left side of the road to driving on the right side of the road. Peter and Cecil discuss the origins of which side of the road we drive on in America. What does not sound right is Sweden switched in one day, after a four hour pause. Join us for a great topic. #DagenH #righthanddrive #TDSR

96. Noodling
Peter and Cecil discuss the mesmerizing technique of "noodling" - an age-old and adrenaline-pumping fishing method that is as daring as it is unique. Forget rods and reels, because noodling, or hillbilly hand-fishing, requires nothing more than bare hands, courage, a keen understanding of the waters, and a willingness to grab a snapping turtle. #noodling #alone #tdsr #snappingturtles
Some listener feedback from this episode:
-You imparted 2 pieces of (alleged) knowledge that has changed my mind. First is the existence of a chain mail noodling glove. That such a thing even exists makes me feel proud to be an American. I believe the noodling glove would embolden me to reach deep into the mud without paralyzing fear.
The other game-changer is learning that catfish whiskers don't sting. I was told this a youngster, and never doubted it. Knowing it has sharp pointy parts is less freighting than thinking they could somehow inject venom with their whiskers. (Something I have believed for several decades, that now suddenly seems absurd.)
There is only one thing that still gives me pause. The number of days I have gone fishing is well over twice the number of days I have caught fish. To think I could spend a few hours reaching into the mire and still go home empty handed, (or even missing a digit or two if Cecil is right about the snapping turtles,) makes me wonder if this would be worth it. I would like a follow up discussion on whether you think the success rate of noodling is higher or lower than using a fishing pole.

95. You are not Funny
It don't sound right but one of our hosts has tried stand up comedy. Join us as Peter and Cecil reveal who has been on stage trying make people laugh. Stay until the end to hear why the podcast is a creative outlet for both of them. Thank you all for pushing us past 10K downloads, it has been a great couple of weeks! #openmic #notfunny #TDSR

94. Tobacco Jenga
The That Don't Sound Right staff clarifies exactly where and how Cecil grew up in North Carolina. Then, Cecil tells Peter about the lost art of tobacco stick houses. Peter does not think that building play structures for kids out of thin pieces of wood sounds right. However, these teetering towers filled with cousins provided endless hours of adventure. The higher they were built the more adventure they provided. Once in, there is no easy way out, kinda like a TDSR episode! #tobaccostick #TDSR

93. Hay Day!
Happy Fourth of July! In this episode Peter and Cecil welcome Emily and Ella back into the studio for a topic of their choosing. They have a lot to say about Hay Day. It has been around for awhile but this enduring mobile game is still eating up valuable time. Peter and Cecil are no strangers to playing video games, so there is no judgement. Join us as we head out to the virtual farm to fill some boat orders! #hayday #TDSR
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- I’ve still got these! (Driver & Half-Life)

92. Government Cheese
Back by popular demand, Emily and Ella are in the Camel City Studio and ready to talk about Government Cheese. The mysterious cheese caves of Missouri are our topic and we learn about what else is being stored underground. In addition, they catch us up on their freshman year and things That Don't Sound Right. #cheesecaves #governmentcheese #whomovedmycheese
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- Quite a while back I heard a podcast on government cheese. From my memory, I think Peter's description of the cheese might not be entirely accurate. I believe they had fairly high standards for the cheese quality that they demanded from the cheesemakers they contracted. It was a hard cheese and I thought it was more akin to cheddar. There developed a sub culture of sorts and government cheese is remembered very fondly by folks who grew up eating it. I'm tempted to look it up, but I won't.

91. Hot Toothpicks
Middle school economies are the topic tonight! Cecil springs the underground commodity of hot toothpicks on Peter. Was it just a West Cary, NC phenomenon or did others trade in the hidden realms of hot toothpicks? Also, Peter gives his best fatherly advice in Words of Wisdom. #Hottoothpicks #TDSR #cinnamon #fathersday
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- I was in Junior High in SE Pennsylvania from 1987-1989. I do recall kids having and distributing flavored toothpicks around this time. They were mostly mint flavored, but some were hot cinnamon. They were packaged in cellophane, so they were not "home made" with cassia oil as far as I know.

90. Gold Nuggets
Peter thinks That Cecil buying a small bag of dirt from Georgia Don't Sound Right. We are talking gold, buying dirt and striking it rich. North Carolina is gold country and shiny flakes twinkle in the bottom of every mountain stream. But, figuring out how to get that gold can be hard work. If nothing else, at least we find something to talk about.
#TDSR #nuggets #gold

89. It's Alimentary
We had a big response to Episode 87, Lunch Arsenal and in response, Peter and Cecil follow up to listener comments on the best gas station lunch. David, a new and avid listener sends the TDSR crew a care package of lunch items specifically to further Peter's education on what is best for a working man's lunch. We also learn a new word! Join us for a great episode and thank you for all the comments. A special thanks to David for supplying lunch today for the crew in the studio! #viennasausage #sardines #honeybun #TDSR

If you are headed to the beach or relaxing in the backyard, this is a great time to get caught up with the TDSR family. #Memorialday #TDSR #mailbag

87. Lunch Arsenal
This episode covers the favorite and re-occurring topic of food, specifically lunch food on the go. Cecil has some ideas of what makes the best and most shelf stable lunch if you are without refrigeration and only have the snack arsenal of a gas station. Peter takes great exception to saltines, sardines, Vienna sausages and hot sauce, offering that there has to be an alternative. Be sure to send us your best gas station picks for lunch on the road. #viennasausages #sardines #gasstationfood
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- I know I’m listening to the right podcast when the more bougie of the two hosts lunches on beef jerky and dried pineapple.

86. Digging Up the Past
What will the future think when it digs up our podcast? Tonight Peter and Cecil speculate on what happens when future archeologists dig up our time. Specifically, what will they think was going on at Buc-ees? Join us for our conversation and be sure to email your guesses. #RoadTrip #Bucees #Romanbath

85. Define: That Don't Sound Right
Peter and Cecil are back in the Camel City Studio annex with our Merch Tester Giorgio, who had the novel idea to ask AI to define what makes something not sound right. AI gave a great answer and we are ready to discuss in depth. Join us to determine if Artificial Intelligence can figure out what does not sound right as well as we can at That Don't Sound Right. #AI #ChatGPT

84. Signed, Sealed, Arrested
This week Peter and Cecil welcome Giorgio, our merchandise tester, to the Camel City Studio. Giorgio recounts the harrowing tale of being questioned in the post office for a TDSR shirt selfie. Tune in for an episode that is guaranteed to having you shouting the answer at your device! #USPS #PostalInspector

81. Doubting Thomas Joins the Club
In keeping with our holiday tradition we look at a biblical figure that is dealing with something that don't sound right. Peter and Cecil discuss the story of Doubting Thomas and his struggle to believe that Jesus had risen from the dead. As Peter and Cecil recount the story, they sympathize with Thomas and wonder where he was the first time Jesus appeared to his disciples and Cecil recounts a time when he thought Jesus had returned. So join us for this thought-provoking episode of "That Don't Sound Right," as we explore the story of Doubting Thomas and the powerful message it holds for us today.

79. That Don't Taste Right
In this episode, Peter and Cecil put their taste buds to the test as they blind taste some popular snacks that have gone too far in trying to be innovative. The time honored favorites have rolled out new flavors and while they may sound like a good idea in theory, do they actually taste good? Along the way, they'll also discuss the trend of food companies trying to push the boundaries with their products and ask the question: is it innovation or just plain weirdness? #peeps #Reeses
Some listener feedback from this episode:
- Loved the episode and laughed out loud a few times. There are many more oddities that snack companies took to far but you asked for any success stories. Starburst Jelly Beans. It is the only jelly bean we buy now around Easter. I don’t even think you can find those old flavored jelly beans with the mint, licorice, cherry flavors anymore. I guess Harry Potter listened to you as well when then showcased Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans – that don’t taste right.
